Having only opened in 1998, Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is a relatively new and modern facility, and is close to a number of hotels, which tend to reside within the Pudong area. Hotels in the centre of Shanghai are sited around 30 km / 19 miles to the north-west of Pudong International Airport (PVG). Many of Shanghai's most popular hotels are aimed at the lucrative business market. Lying close to both the Shanghai Expo Centre and the Pudong New International Expo Centre, business hotels here are often on the pricey side, which is typical of major cities in China.
Accommodation can be found around Shanghai's numerous districts and neighbourhoods, with the Pu Dong area containing many high-rise hotels and skyscrapers, which form much of the city's skyline. Further lodging in Shanghai stands around historic Old French Concession region, in the commercial Hong Qiao district, nearby the Jiao Tong University, and along Nan Jing Road, the city's main thoroughfare.
